Birthday Celebrations 24 April - Ian Hill (80) and Chic Lowson (90)

The Band will be celebrating the very special occasion of the 80th birthday of Pipe Major Ian Hill (22 April) and the 90th birthday of Pipe Corporal Chic Lowson (24 April) with a light birthday luncheon at the Pt. Chevalier Memorial RSA starting at 12 noon.

We ask that friends of the Band, and of the birthday boys, join with us in making the celebrations something to remember. To keep the costs to a minimum we have arranged a “finger food” style of luncheon at a cost of $12.00 per person.

(BE THERE - as the highlights will be recorded for posterity. A film documentary team is covering the celebrations as part of the documentary being made of the Band during 2009/ 2010).

October 2006

  • Christmas Schedule - Updated list of parades for 2006-2007 added to the site.  Busy times ahead, but fortunately some new players have joined the band.
  • Bard of the Band - It looks like we have "a poet and did not know it".  From a recent circular to band members on upcoming parades:

The piping season has begun
And from Signals Band, every son
And daughter too, if truth be told,
Do shake and quiver: None are bold,
As the Band goes forth, under skies of blue,
A-keening, and a-wailing and a -tapping ado
.

Parades are mounting and time is short,
To earn some money, as we aught,
To pay the rent, buy skins and reeds,
And sticks and bags, and buttons and needs.
So gird you loins and book-in the days,
Och, and have a few drams along the ways.

September 2005

  • Drummers wanted!!! - We're on the lookout for more drummers. If you currently play, or would like to learn side drum, tenor drum or bass drum please contact us.
  • Christmas parades - The band is gearing up for the Christmas parade season, always a busy time of year. More details soon, but likely parades are New Lynn and Orewa.

August 2005

  • New Lynn Scottish night - The band's performances at the New Lynn RSA's Scottish Night in August went great. A castle, ceilidh band, highland dancers, food and drink - A fantastic event all round. (This was the second time the band has performed here).
  • Farewell Malcolm - The band bid farewell to Malcolm its long-standing Drum Major. Malcolm joined the band in the 1960s and is moving to Blenheim, but we hope he will make it back for the odd parade...

July 2005

  • Point Chev Scottish night - The band put on its own Scottish night in July at the Point Chev RSA. A couple of hundred attended and enjoyed several sets from the band, highland dancers, ceilidh band and of course haggis. Malcolm, the band's Drum Major, gave a stirring address to the Haggis to cap off a great night.

April 2005

  • ANZAC Day - The band's annual ANZAC Day parade went well, with a good turn-out of bandsmen and a good turn of weather. Ian, the Pipe Major, played the lament during the service, and afterwards the band played a few sets inside the RSA during the afternoon. See Photos.
